Recently the Bösendorfer piano has been tuned and I took the opportunity to make a new instrument out of it. I don't mean literally rip the thing apart as this would be innapropriate for an instrument that has been played by the late Sergei Rachmaninov amongst others. It was simply a case of plucking the strings at different levels of pressure and recording them.

Combining the hard and soft plucking of the strings as velocity layers in my sampler resulted in a very pleasing and unique instrument. I have been experimenting with the Böspluck and here is a small clip of the results. Sure, there are a number of sample libraries out there that provide plucked piano samples but doing it for yourself is far more rewarding.
